MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:

MIKAELA:

My name is Mikaela Kauma and I am so excited to begin teaching yoga at the AVEDA Institute of Madison! I am currently a sophomore student here at UW Madison. I will be applying to the nursing school in the fall, which makes this a perfect time to teach calming yoga and meditation for the benefit of the community to reduce stress and promote positivity in our hectic lives.

I began going to yoga classes with my mom when I was 12, and have since then gone to multiple studios to take classes, as well as built my own home practice over the years. I have taught others every chance I can: from friends’ basements to apartment rooftops! From the moment I first heard about the vast benefits of yoga, I have been sharing the philosophy with friends, coworkers, family, and strangers alike, and have personally seen how much happiness it can bring. This spread of happiness is what inspired me to complete my instructor training through Green Lotus Yoga and Healing Center in Minnesota, which has changed my life in more ways than I can imagine.

Yoga has helped me in all areas of my life:  family, friends, school, health, and more. It has inspired me to be the best that I can be, and I aspire to continue to learn more about yoga in order to teach others how their own practice can help them as well.

After I graduate, I plan on applying to a Physician’s Assistant program. My dream is to be able to incorporate the philosophies and practices of yoga into a hospital setting, specifically in pediatrics to help children and families gain strength, positivity, and health while providing a fun experience during their stay. I am also interested in participating in research involving the mental and physical health effects of yoga and meditation. Furthermore, I hope to offer free classes to the community in the future, and fill my free time with traveling yoga programs to expand my knowledge and build connections in the yoga community.

I am so thankful to be given this opportunity to share my teaching, and can’t wait to get started!
