We have the pleasure of hosting Oscar Bond of Hattori Hanzo Shears at the Aveda Institute Madison on Tuesday, January 31st to share with our Cosmetology students some industry inspiration. He began his long history as an industry educator at the esteemed Vidal Sassoon Academy in London where he was a member of the International Artistic and Show Team for Sassoon before taking the big leap to independence in 1987.
His mastery of the craft and gift for teaching has taken him all over the world for the past 25 years. He has worked in almost every city in the world and all over America. In 1994, he joined the Aveda Artistic Style Council and was appointed as Head of Education for the Aveda Institute in New York – Soho. At Aveda, he was responsible for implementing a strong yet simple haircutting system on many levels throughout the Aveda network, as well as delivering the latest trends through weekly advanced haircutting classes, national level shows and seasonal photographic sessions. In 1998, he began the tremendous task of putting his years of knowledge and expertise into ownership of a vision.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL VACATION SPOT?
OSCAR: Somewhere with the family, I don’t care we go. I get away one week a year with the family and I travel for work so anytime I can stay home is great. The prettiest place I have ever been is the Tyrol Mountains in Italy.
WHO DO YOU WATCH FOR INDUSTRY INSPIRATION?
OSCAR: Magazines, wallpaper and photographer’s. I get a lot of inspiration from their websites.
WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?
OSCAR: The soundtrack to SING (such a great movie), David Bowie’s greatest hits, and the best of Mozart
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY? ANY ADVICE?
OSCAR: #1 is waking up in the morning and going to work. You become who you are around, good things happen when good people are around you. This is why going to an Aveda school is so great for you, you’re surrounded by great people – you get this certain cache about you.
